Over half of IT contractors are worried about their job compared to just 12% in February.

A survey from IT recruitment firm InterQuest found one in three companies is reporting redundancies - a rise of 20% since February.

However, just over half of IT staff (52%) believe IT is more secure than other industries.

Gary Ashworth, executive chairman at InterQuest, said: "No sector is immune from economic fluctuation but any downturn in IT is likely to be temporary. IT is at the very heart of businesses - companies simply can't survive without it and this survey demonstrates that IT professionals understand this point."
